Scholarship Benefits

$5,000 is the Chancellor’s Award. Renewable:

A scholarship for international high school graduates beginning their undergraduate studies at the university is the Algoma University Chancellor’s Award. This scholarship offers a $5,000 annual award that is renewable. Students must register as full-time students and complete a minimum of 15 credits per term during the Fall and Winter semesters in order to be eligible.

Applicants must have an exceptional academic record and an overall GPA of at least A+ (or its equivalent) in their prior courses in order to be considered for this scholarship. At the time of admission, international students must also fulfill particular language criteria, such as receiving a minimum score on a standardized English language test like the TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Assessment of English, or Duolingo Test of English (DTE).

Up to three more years of the Chancellor’s Award are renewable. The scholarship won’t be given out or renewed if the requirements aren’t met in any given year.

President’s Award ($2,500) Non-Renewable

A non-renewable award, the Algoma University President’s Award, is available to international high school graduates beginning their first year of undergraduate studies. The sum of this admission scholarship is $2,500. During the Fall and Winter semesters, eligible students must register as full-time students and take a minimum of 12 credits each term.

International students who attended secondary schools in Ontario must receive grades in their top six Grade 12 U/M courses that range from 80 to 89.9 percent to be eligible for the President’s Award.

Dean’s Award ($1000) Non-Renewable

International high school graduates who are starting their undergraduate studies are eligible for this award. It is given to those who enrol as full-time students and take a minimum of 12 credits per term over the Fall and Winter semesters. It is worth $1,000. For consideration for the Dean’s Award, candidates must have earned a minimum grade point average of B+ (or the equivalent in their nation) in their prior academic work.

Award of Excellence ($500) Non-Renewable

International high school graduates beginning their first year of undergraduate study are eligible for this scholarship. This $500 entry scholarship is awarded. During the Fall and Winter semesters, eligible students must register as full-time students and take a minimum of 12 credits each term.

Applicants must have a minimum B average (or the equivalent in their country) on their prior academic record to be eligible for the Award of Excellence.

Eligibility Requirements

• International students applying for the aforementioned scholarships must, as of the first day of school, be in possession of a temporary resident visa issued under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act of Canada as a member of the student class.
• The Entrance Scholarship is available to all students who are obliged to pay the international differential fee, including university transfers, second-degree students, college diploma graduates, and college transfer students.
• Students must successfully complete all of their qualifying prerequisites in the academic year previous to their admission at Algoma University in order to be eligible for these scholarships.
• It is important to realize that overseas scholarships cannot ever be postponed. The terms and conditions of admission as well as the scholarship offered for the year it was first awarded must be accepted by the student.
• Students who begin their studies in the Winter or Spring term will be considered for awards in the next academic year since the awards require enrolment for two semesters (Fall/Winter) within an academic year.
• Only undergraduate degree programs are eligible for the entrance scholarships.
